The short version. Tasmee is a non-profit Qur'an app. You don't need an account, and what you do in the app stays on your device. We don't sell data, show adverts or track you across other apps or websites.
A few features ask outside services for something, such as a rough position or a recitation. Those requests are listed below. They carry no account or device ID.

This policy explains what Tasmee (“we”, “us”) handles, why, and what choices you have. It covers the Tasmee apps for iOS and Android and the web version at web.tasmee.org. Section 5 covers accounts made in earlier versions.
1. What stays on your device
- Your Qur'an activity — bookmarks, reading place, hifz progress and test results, and tasbeeh counts.
- Your settings — language, theme, reciter, chosen location, iqamah times and downloaded books.
- Practice recordings — when you record yourself in hifz, the recording stays on your device and is deleted when you leave the screen. The microphone is used for nothing else.
- Camera — used only on the Qibla screen, if you ask for it, to show the direction over the camera view. Nothing is recorded or sent.
- Prayer times and the Qibla — calculated on your device.
We have no copy of any of this. If you delete the app, or clear the browser's data for the web version, it is gone.
2. What leaves your device
Your approximate location
- A starting position from your connection. If you haven't chosen a location, the app asks a lookup service (ipwho.is, or geojs.io if the first doesn't answer) where your internet connection roughly is, so prayer times can show straight away. The service sees your IP address and answers with a town or region. The answer is kept on your device and refreshed at most once a day. This stops once you use your device's location, pick a city or place a point on the map.
- The name of your place. If you use your device's location or place a point on the map, the position is rounded to two decimal places (about a kilometre) and sent to BigDataCloud, which answers with the name of the town and country.
- Map pictures. The map screens load their images from OpenStreetMap, which can see which area is being viewed and your IP address.
We don't receive or store your location ourselves.
Downloads
- Recitations are played from everyayah.com, which sees your IP address and which recitation is requested.
- Tafsir and translation books are downloaded from tasmee.org when you ask for them. Like most websites, our server keeps ordinary request logs, including IP addresses, to keep it running and secure. They are not linked to any person or account.
Our website
The pages on tasmee.org load their fonts from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when you visit them.
3. What we do not do
No account needed No selling data No advertising No ad identifiers No cross-app tracking No analytics No recordings sent
4. Outside services the app uses
- ipwho.is and geojs.io — a rough position from your connection.
- BigDataCloud — the name of a place.
- OpenStreetMap — map pictures.
- everyayah.com — recitations.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — distribute the app, and handle your data under their own policies.
Each of these runs under its own privacy policy, and we don't control what it logs.
5. Accounts from earlier versions
Versions before 1.0.4 had phone sign-in and live recitation sessions. The current version has neither. If you made an account back then, we still hold what it had, until you ask us to delete it:
- a one-way hash of your phone number (never the number itself) and your public code;
- your nickname, gender, nationality and country;
- your preferences, reading place, bookmarks and push token;
- if a moderation case is still open, a short redacted excerpt, kept only for its appeal window.
Our servers are hosted on Amazon Web Services. Phones still running an earlier version keep using its sign-in (Google Firebase Authentication), push notifications (Apple and Firebase) and live voice sessions, whose audio is briefly recorded for moderation and deleted on a short schedule. Updating ends all of this for you, but it doesn't delete the account.
To delete an old account: follow these steps. Moving to the current version doesn't require it.
6. Your choices and rights
- Avoid location lookups by picking a city. You can also refuse device location and still use every other part of the app.
- Refuse the microphone or camera and only recording in hifz or the camera view on the Qibla screen will be unavailable.
- Remove your data by deleting the app or clearing its data.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete data we hold. Contact us and we will help.
7. Children
Tasmee is for a general audience, and the current version asks no one for personal details. If you believe a child made an account in an earlier version, contact us and we will remove it.
8. Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the “last updated” date above.
